Really, I Need an Answer. The Only Ones Interested in My Life Want to Ruin It.

So, I've got questions. Mainly aimed at those who oppose gay marriage. I hear all about the evils that would surely permeate our now-pristine set of perfect heterosexual examples of marriage. I hear about protecting the sanctity of marriage and securing family values. I hear about money shortages if companies extend benefits. I hear about windbags trying to amend the Constitution. What I have yet to hear is any valid reason for any of these right-wing conservative propaganda "what-ifs."

My big question is this: before anyone tries to define who is eligible to be joined in the union of marriage, could we please define that union? Is it a religious institution? Is it a secular institution? If it is a religious union, then the Federal Government has no right to use it as any form of criteria for any purpose such as: Taxation, property rights, adoption, etc.. If it is a secular union, then no one has any right to try to fit it into any religion other than that of the two parties involved. Our intellectually-impaired leader seems to want it both ways. He wants his version of God and religion to determine what is right for all of our citizens, regardless of each individual's chosen set of beliefs and he wants to be able to utilize parts of that union to determine eligibility for federal benefits and responsibility to the IRS.

I am at a loss to understand how any union outside of one's own marriage could impact said marriage, yet I have heard about the fear that same-sex marriage would weaken the whole institution of marriage. How, I ask...how? Is the marriage institution so weak that it can be shaken in this way? We now have information at our disposal...would some statistician please go to Massachusetts and measure the stability of heterosexual marriages in the wake of the recently wed same-sex couples that are now fortunate enough to have been legally recognized?

What Life?

Of course, as the ultimate procrastinator, I end up spending a lot of time reading other peoples' blogs so as to live vicariously through them. I pity the poor sap that chooses to live through mine.

I've been making or attempting contact with an interesting mix of folks lately. Since moving here, I've had a hard time finding people with whom I'd choose to spend time. I'm not saying anything about their worthiness, but the fit just isn't good. Patti and the Poconos are having a hard time jiving, dig?

I did meet someone interesting as a result of the Fisher video shoot. I was too much of a dork to talk to her there, but we have managed to e-mail a few times.

Hate to come off like an errant 12-step drop out, but I've also been trying to get back in touch with some old friends from the 80's and 90's (where's Mr. Peabody when you need him?). No, not to make amends for drunken indiscretions, just to get caught up. Through the magic of the Internet, I may just find success. I'd put their names here so that you, gentle reader, could let them know of my interest in connecting, but you're not even reading this.

Talk About Your Goofy Grins!

This is the picture I sent to Kathy Fisher to be a part of the "Beautiful Life" video. Hey, if life is beautiful, I don't have to be! I did end up in a "solo" shot, but time will tell if it makes it into the final production or on the cutting room floor! There were some great people involved in the shoot, I'm so glad I got to be a part of it.

Finally, an Interesting Moment! (my 15 minutes are ticking away...)

I knew I'd have trouble getting into a posting routine! Finally! Something worth writing about! I spent the day in NYC yesterday. As if that weren't enough - the reason I went was to participate in the filming of a music video for Fisher, an amazing band I fell in love with after hearing, of all things, a Toyota commercial! The video is for the full length recording of "Beautiful Life" - the very tune that sparked my interest. Buy CD's, visit the site - you'll be glad you did!

I expected to show up and just watch from the sidelines. My look doesn't exactly fit the standard video image. But...everyone was involved. I may even have a single close-up shot. I will, of course, make sure everyone knows when production is complete and where to see the video.
